Program/Service Notes:
The Mass. Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service is designed to assist each individual in first determining what type of lawyer is best suited to the client's case type, and then referring the client to a private attorney who practices in that particular field. The first half hour consultation with an LRS attorney will be no more than $25. After that, the attorney charges his/her regular legal fee. This fee should be discussed during the initial half hour consultation. It is recommended that the client asks for a written fee agreement. If the individual in need cannot afford typical attorney fees, the LRS can make reduced fee referrals for certain case types, but only if the client falls within income eligibility guidelines. The client's income will be screened by an LRS representative. If the client qualifies for a reduced fee referral, and the attorney accepts the case, the attorney will charge no more than $75 per hour. All LRS attorneys are in good standing with the MA Board of Bar Overseers and carry up to date practice insurance. LRS attorneys are not obligated to take reduced fee or regular cases.
