DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES:
The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) provides subsidies to graduate students with children for child care and/or afterschool programs. These subsidies are generally allocated during the beginning of the Fall semester for use during the academic year. If funds are available, subsidies may be provided for summer care as well.
Priority is given to low income students.
Subsidy amounts may vary, but have ranged from 15% to 50% of cost; subsidies are determined based on income and family size by a committee of the Graduate Student Senate. Subsidies may only be used for licensed care providers.
All graduate students with children are eligible to apply, whether you will be receiving care on or off campus.
Payments will be made directly to the child care provider. The GSS will only pay for care actually provided. You are responsible for meeting payment requirements in your agreement with your child care provider. Providers are informed that parents are responsible for the balance of tuition which exceeds the GSS subsidy.
To apply: Request an application from the Graduate Student Senate, complete both sides of the application and return to the GSS Office with supporting documents (most recent income tax return, last two pay stubs, assistantship contracts, etc.).
Deadlines are in September for the Spring Semester and in the spring for the Fall Semester.
