Joan Swerdlow-Brandt LICSW, Dr. Robert Brandt. FACE offers individual and group programs for those who are confronting eating problems. They focus on restructuring attitudes toward food behavior patterns. Provide employee programs which are tailored to meet the needs of industry, schools, health organizations, and professional organizations.
Language translation NOT available. Non HMO/hospital affiliated clients seen. Ave length of appt: 50 minutes. Ave time between calls to make an appt and the appt: 1-2 weeks. Full payment NOT required upon visit. Sliding fee is available. Medicare Part B accepted. Private insurance accepted. Mass Health NOT accepted. Payment installments accepted. Specialize in psychotherapy, substance abuse, eating disorders, and depression. Treatment approach combines theoretical frameworks and strategies from cognitive, interactional, systems, psychodynamic, and behavioral therapies. Supportive, solution focused treatment with the goal to improve symptoms, mood, and coping ability while deepening self-awareness and understanding of food and weight issues. Focus on repairing client's dysfunctional relationship to eating and body image, reframing the damaging beliefs of the dieting mentality and our thinness obsessed culture. Use psycho-education, journaling, cognitive restructuring and affirmations along with exploring the emotional patterns, past trauma, and core issues that perpetuate the preoccupation with food and body self hatred. Goal of recovery is to have a flexible, stable relationship to food as well as a realistic, attainable goal weight and positive body image. Exploration of emotional eating patterns.
Priority populations: adolescents, young mothers, lesbians, older women, survivors of child abuse/sexual abuse, incest survivors.
