Program/Service Notes:
Head Start is a free pre-school for three and four year old children in income eligible families. A number of comprehensive services are offered. Locations include Amherst, Ware, Northampton, and Easthampton. Extended day available in Northampton, Easthampton and Amherst. Components of the Program: -Education: provides social/emotional development. Other pre-school areas are offered in curriculum planning. -Health: insures that all children receive a physical and updated immunizations. Hearing and vision screening are provided. -Nutrition: provides for breakfast and lunch. Two snacks are served also. Cooking classes are offered. -Disability: helps families identify learning styles and parents to understand their child's education plan. -Mental health: helps families identify resources that will help reduce stress and provide parenting guidance. -Home Visiting Program: provides early childhood and parent education in the home. Resources are offered. -Social Services: identifies strengths and goals families. Support is offered to help families access to resources. -Free Workshops are offered on an ongoing basis. Head Start operates 5 days per week.
