Program/Service Notes:
The Massachusetts Eating Disorder Association is dedicated to alleviating the problems of anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating. MEDA’s mission is to prevent the continuing spread of eating disorders through educational awareness and early detection. We serve as a support network and as a resource to individuals recovering from their eating disorders. We aim to empower individuals to live free of food obsession.
Services:
-Professionals who are experts in the identification and treatment of Eating Disorders staff MEDA’S Clinical Services Department. Some of MEDA’S services are free while others are offered on a sliding fee scale.
-CONNECT-LINE: This is the "FIRST STEP" to connect to help. This line provides education about eating disorders, information about MEDA's services and how to connect to treatment. Call above number.
-ASSESSMENTS: MEDA offers a customized and comprehensive ASSESSMENT/CONSULTATION SERVICE at our Newton office. Clients meet with a licensed clinician to receive an evaluation of their eating issues, investigate options for treatment, and receive a treatment plan including referrals. Clients will receive referrals to MEDA approved professionals based on philosophies, geographic location, and insurance requirements to create an individualized treatment team just for them. .
-PROFESSIONAL REFERRAL: MEDA maintains a registry of specialists in the field of eating disorders on our web site. We can provide referrals to therapists, nutritionists and treatment centers (both within the state of Massachusetts and across the country). Customized referrals, based on the evaluation of the eating disorder, insurance coverage and geographic location are given as part of a personal assessment.
-CLIENT CONSULTATIONS: Client consultations are intended for individuals who have been in treatment but are dissatisfied with their success in recovery. Individuals requesting a consultation will meet with a clinician to discuss their history, treatment plan and progress. Recommendations for change and/or additions to one’s treatment plan may be given.
-FAMILY COACHING: Family consultations are designed for families who have concerns about a family member’s eating behavior or eating disorder. Family members have the opportunity to meet with a clinician, with or without the symptomatic family member, to assess options for treatment. This is also an opportunity for a family to receive support for themselves and learn more effective ways to cope with their loved one’s struggles around eating.
-GROUPS: MEDA offers several groups for individuals and families. Call for information.
-EDUCATION AND PREVENTION: MEDA's Education and Prevention team envisions living in a society free of eating disorders, disordered eating and obsessions about food, weight and body shape. We strive to communicate with and educate the public regarding all aspects of eating disorders and disordered eating. In order to achieve awareness and heighten sensitivity, we provide workshops on topics such as eating disorders, media literacy, self-esteem, body image and nutrition. MEDA has educational info for parents, teens and educators.
