Program/Service Notes:
The Educator/Advocate Program works toward decreasing the high incidence of violence against women through preventive education. Through workshops, community organizing, and other educational programming, we seek to expose and challenge the personal attitudes, societal values, and institutional structures that reinforce and perpetuate men's violence against women. Educator/Advocates design and facilitate workshops on a variety of topics, combining the following goals: - Addressing the common themes and unique experiences of women of diverse backgrounds, - Establishing connections between violence against women and other forms of oppression. - The Educator/Advocates work as facilitators rather than experts, educating for empowerment and social change. The topics that they address are: - Sexual assault and rape - Media images - Sexual harassment - Pornography - Teen dating violence - Healthy relationships - Relationship violence - Safety issues -Also operate the Hilltown Project, dedicated to issues of violence in the rural hilltowns of Western Ma -Have a Teen Education Specialist on staff who conducts workshops and educational materials to area teens.
