Family Preservation
These programs are designed to support families facing a multitude of challenges in our ever changing society. Families are provided with new skills and information to assist with parenting. Our goal is to enhance communication, build positive relationships and strengthen the family unit. The Family Preservation programs include:
Families & Schools Together (FAST)
A prevention and parent involvement program that promotes family interaction, communication, and problem-solving through organized activities such as games, singing and meal sharing. FAST targets elementary and middle school children focusing on positive experiences to strengthen bonds within families, the schools, and the community.
Family Mentor Program
A voluntary, parent support and education program that is provided in a number of local communities. Family mentors encourage the development of the important linkage between school, home and community resources. It is designed to prevent child abuse and neglect and focuses on building upon the strengths of the parent through education and life skills training.
Family Skill-Builder Programs
In-home, case management services for families throughout Western Massachusetts that are at risk of abusing and neglecting their children and are involved with DSS. It is designed to resolve child abuse and neglect, prevent the need for child foster placement and to help families function independently of state intervention.
Parents and Children in Divorce Program
Divorce is a difficult and challenging transition for both parents and children. Through discussion, video, role playing and workbooks, licensed professionals will help parents explore the needs of children in divorce, and develop practical coping strategies.
Topics to be discussed include:
Roles and responsibilities of parents who do not live together
How families experience divorce disputes
Stages of adjustment to divorce
Effective communication techniques
Conflict management
Program Information:
The five hour seminar is divided into two sessions, each 2½ hours long
To complete the program, participants must attend both sessions in their entirety
Approved by the Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts
Programs are offered monthly, evenings and weekends at convenient locations
