DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES:
Healthy Start is a state program providing comprehensive prenatal health care coverage to eligible pregnant women who are uninsured. It also offers information, referral and advocacy to all pregnant women.
Healthy Start pays for all the cost of medically necessary care during pregnancy for eligible participants including the following services:
-pregnancy test
-prenatal care with participating physician, nurse-midwife, health center, or hospital clinic
-labratory tests and prescription medications
-postpartum care
-pediatric newborn assessment and one pediatric visit after discharge
Regional Healthy Start staff provide the following information, referral and advocacy services to ALL women:
-advocacy and assistance to pregnant teens, recent immigrants and refugees and women at risk for inadequate care
-phone screening for eligibility to MassHealth (Medicaid)
-initiation of MassHealth applicants for those who appear eligible
-follow-up and advocacy to ensure coverage is received
-assistance in locating doctors or nurse midwives
-assistance in accessing community support services needed to help women have a healthy pregnancy
