Program/Service Notes:
-A safe, structured place where children from families affected by domestic violence can visit with the non-custodial parent. Its primary purpose is to prevent further traumatization of children and abused parents. -Supervised Visits: If there is a risk of on-going physical or emotional abuse (including sexual abuse or the use of drugs and alcohol) is a concern, visits at the center will be closely monitored by volunteers who will model parenting skills and enforce the rules of the center. -Unsupervised On-Site Visits: Structured visits without close monitoring may be held at the site when there is a threat of abduction or stalking, or if an appropriate place to visit with children is unavailable. -Neutral Drop-Off and Pick-Up: The custodial parent/guardian brings the child to the Visitation Center. The non-custodial parent, using separate parking and entrance areas, picks the child up and returns him/her to the center at a specified time. The exchange is made by staff so parents do not have contact. -Court Reports: Visitation Center staff write progress reports for the court and make recomendations as needed. -Referrals: Parents, attorneys, therapists and others may request consultation with the YWCA Visitation Center staff to determine if use of the center is appropriate.
