Program/Service Notes:
Founded as a non-profit organization by a survivor of domestic violence in 1994, The Gay Men’s Domestic Violence Project (GMDVP) provides community education and direct services to gay, bisexual, and transgendered male victims and survivors of domestic violence. It now has a growing pool of volunteers and speakers, and four staff members. GMDVP relies on the grassroots support of survivors, its volunteer base, the LGBT community, and other allies. -The Education Program focuses on raising awareness of same-gender domestic violence in the LGBT community, as well as the overall population of Massachusetts. Outreach is conducted via ad campaigns, workshops, presentations, panels, literature distribution, and the web site (www.gmdvp.org). The Education Program maintains a presence at all GBT pride events in Massachusetts, conducts an annual domestic violence survey of GBT men, and distributes literature throughout the state. -Client Services A 24-hour crisis line is monitored by trained volunteers and staff, providing emotional support, safety planning, crisis counseling, referrals, and emergency housing. The Emergency Safe Home Network was developed to give GBT men who are leaving abusive relationships a safe and supportive place to stay. A statewide organization, The Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project offers support and information to people across Massachusetts, free of charge. A 24-hour crisis line is monitored by trained volunteers and staff, providing emotional support, safety planning, crisis counseling, referrals, and emergency housing.
