Program/Service Notes:
The Escort Service at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is designed to provide safe, dependable, and courteous campus travel for students, faculty, staff, and guests of the community. These escorts are walking escorts there is no longer a shuttle van.
Originally started as a project of the Student Government Association, the service now provides over 21,000 escorts each year. The service is staffed primarily by students and is under the supervision of the Department of Public Safety. Students who serve as escorts are equipped with security radios, name tags, and Student Security coats and hats.
Anyone going to or coming from University property is eligible for this service. However, under the requirements of Massachusetts General Laws we are prohibited from transporting sick or injured people. We reserve the right to decline the service to anyone who is affected by drugs or alcohol. The service is available during the semester, from 7 pm. to 3 am., seven days a week and on a limited basis after 3am and during semester breaks. During severe weather conditions, the service may not be operating.
