Program/Service Notes:
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is ( EEOC) a federal Civil Rights law enforcement agency and is responsible for enforcing a number of federal laws that prohibit employment discrimination. One of these laws is Tile VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended (Tile VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Title VII covers state and local government and private employers with 15 or more employees and also gives EEOC jurisdiction over employment agencies and labor organizations.
The EEOC responsibility is to process the charges filed with it in a fair and objective manner to determine whether the laws it enforces have been violated. It places no greater emphasis on one law than the other.
