HAWC provides comprehensive services to battered women in 23 North Shore Communities from Saugus to Gloucester.
HAWC Provides:
-24-Hour Hotline staffed by trained volunteers. Provides crisis intervention, support, information and referral.
-Emergency shelter for abused women for up to 12 weeks. During the day women participate in support groups, parenting skills classes and house meetings. Advocates use the self-help model to assist women with their housing, financial, medical and employment needs.
-Children's Program believes early intervention with young children is one of the most significant and cost effective ways to break the cycle of violence.
-Legal Advocacy to assist women in obtaining restraining orders in five district courts in Essex County, as well as Salem Probate Court.
-Support Groups help to empower women by letting them know they are not alone, showing them there are ways out of their violent situations. HAWC runs more than a dozen weekly support groups, including ones for Spanish-speaking women and teens.
-Counseling for women and children.
