Spring 2008

Mindfulness and Mood: Empowerment Skills for Women

Ruled by Your Emotions? Join us in a safe and supportive space! Gain skills that will help you to reduce anxiety, improve mood and relationships, relax your body and quiet your mind, and gain greater emotional balance throughout your life. Free of charge and open to women from the Five Colleges and surrounding community.

Date(s): Begins February 21, 2008. Runs for 5 weeks on Thursdays 6:45-8:15.
Location: Wilder Hall, UMass.

The Healing Journey

This discussion based group will focus on common issues survivors face. Topics will include self-worth, boundaries, empowerment, shame, coping skills and intimacy. A strong emphasis will be placed on creating a safe and supportive environment.

Date(s): Monday evenings from 5:00-7:00pm, beginning March 3, 2008 till April 21, 2008.

Creating Community: A Support Group for Female Students

Alone in a Crowd? Join other female undergrads in a safe and supportive environment.
Make connections, share experiences, gain strength and support and build a community that you can be a part of! Free of charge and open to women from the Five Colleges and surrounding community.

Date(s): Spring Semester 2008. Start date to be determined. Runs for 5 weeks on Tuesdays 6:00-7:30.

Dissertation Support Group for Women

Writing your dissertation? This group will focus on providing encouragement and support for women who are in the dissertation writing phase. Join us in a safe and supportive space where you can feel connected, validated and understood. At the same time, participation in the group will lessen feelings of isolation that are common when in this stage of earning a doctoral degree. Group will be facilitated by Pamela Plumer, Ph.D. Co-sponsored by EWC Counseling Services and UMass Graduate Women Network.

Date(s): Spring Semester 2008. Registration begins January 2008. Runs for 8 weeks on Thursdays, 6:15-7:45.

BE YOU! YOUNG WOMEN OF COLOR GROUP

Young women of color face many issues that sometimes render them invisible to mainstream society. Positive characterizations of women of color are sometimes lost in mass medias preoccupation with stereotypes of what it means to be a woman of color-that are unfortunately mired with issues of racism, sexism, and classism. be you seeks to provide a sanctuary, a safe place where young women of color can meet to explore, engage, and dialogue.

Building Healthy Relationships

Drop-in discussion groups for COLLEGE women who have experienced sexual assault and Relationship Violence. Reoccurring discussion topics include:trust, healthy relationships, the impact of trauma, and coping skills. This group is open to all 5- college women. The group is co-facilitated by Jen Dewitt, Counselor Advocate.

Date(s): The group will meet Wednesday evening’s beginning in February 2008.

FINDING SAFETY IN YOUR BODY: Theraputic Yoga and Movement for Women who have Experienced Harm

Do you feel disconnected from your body? In this free six session workshop we will explore yoga and movement exercises to help you connect with your body. Yoga poses and movement activities will be used to promote relaxation, empowerment, self-acceptance, personal expression and balance. Come and create peace in your mind, body and spirit in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment. No experience necessary.

Drop In Group for Survivors of Sexual and Domestic Violence

A discussion based support group focusing on common issues facing survivors. Open to all women, free of charge and confidential.

Date(s): The group will meet Mondays from 3:30-5:00, starting 1/7/08 and will not be meeting on 1/21, MLK day, but will run on 1/28 and 2/4.
Location: Everywoman’s Center, Wilder Hall, 221 Stockbridge Rd. Amherst.
