UMass Amherst Department of Economics lecturer Douglas Cliggott ('78) will focus on tax policy and huge federal government spending programs like health care and defense and talk about how the election results may alter the current status quo. In this one-hour webinar, he'll also review what typically happens in the stock market after a presidential election. (Interestingly, it doesn't usually matter who wins!)
You'll also learn about the "fiscal cliff" and big government programs like defense, Medicare, and education based on the outcomes of the House and Senate elections. For the past 30 years, Cliggott has studied monetary and fiscal policy in the United States and examined how changes in these policies impact the economy and financial markets. He has worked as an investment strategist for global investment banks and has been an equity portfolio manager. Cliggott has a bachelor's degree in economics from UMass Amherst and a master's in economics from New School University.
This event is free and open to all UMass Amherst students, alumni and friends.
