In the wake of the events that have unfolded in Boston, Chris Weyant, a first year student in UMass Amherst's Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management, has organized 2.62 mile Community Run, Thursday evening April 18, on the UMass Amherst campus.

The run will start at approximately 6:30 p.m, beginning from the plaza between The Mullins Center and Practice Ice Rink.

This run serves two purposes:

1) To show the people of Boston that UMass students are behind them

2) To show the perpetrators of these horrific attacks that UMass students
overcome adversity, and that peace is the best ally.

No registration is required. Just show up.

The route will be approximately 2.62 miles, and will be run at a leisurely pace around campus.

Students volunteers will be on site at 5:30 They will be collecting donations that will go to The One Fund Boston, which will be administered by Kenneth Feinberg '67, a UMass Amherst alumnus and prominent Washington, D.C. lawyer who ran the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. You may make donations even if you don’t run or if you cannot attend the event, through The One Fund Boston website.

Please wear yellow and blue t-shirts, the signature colors of the Boston Athletic Association, the sponsors of the Boston Marathon.

People all over the world are running for Boston (#RunForBoston). Running as a unified group demonstrates that we, as a community, as a country, and as a human race, will not bow to terrorism.

Please invite your friends on Facebook and share on Twitter and Instagram with #RunForBoston.

This event isn’t the only one focused on responding to the Boston Marathon bombing. UMass football head coach Charley Molnar, an avid runner himself, is offering those who were competing at the marathon a chance to “Cross The Finish Line” at the Minutemen’s Spring Game at McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Saturday, April 20. Those runners will be able to take a lap around the field, cross the finish line which will be set-up at the 50-yard line, and be presented a gift on behalf of the UMass football program. The game kicks-off at 4 p.m.  As the runners take a lap around the field, their names will be displayed on the stadium’s video board in recognition of their accomplishment.
