Talk: A Radio Voice for the Voiceless Around the World
September 24, 2013
UMass Amherst Campus
Please join us for a talk titled “A Radio Voice for the Voiceless Around the World,” presented by Pete Tridish, a diehard advocate for more democratic media organizations here in the U.S. and internationally.
In much of the world, radio remains the most powerful medium and will remain that way for the near future. This lecture features radio stations and trainings with social movement groups in Nepal, Colombia, Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, Nicaragua and Honduras.
This event is part of the Five College Public Policy Initiative’s Justice Practitioner-in-Residence Program, which gives Five College students and faculty unique opportunities to engage with and learn from individuals who have hands-on policymaking experience. Tridish is a radio engineer and media activist, who has worked with hundreds of community groups to build radio stations and change the laws to create opportunities for ownership of stations by social justice organizations.
