Theaster Gates will speak on "Du Bois: The Early Social Practitioner" as part of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Architecture + Design Fall 2013 Lecture Series and the UMass Amherst University Museum of Contemporary Art (UMCA) Du Bois In Our Time Exhibition (9/10-12/8/2013).  

Theaster Gates is an innovative artist with an expanded artistic practice that includes space development, object making, performance and critical engagement with many publics. Gates transforms spaces, institutions, traditions, and perceptions.
