Holly Richardson, co-director of OutNow, with youth from OutNow and QuEST
OutNow is a youth led, queer youth organization that works to promote harm reduction, self-determination, and community building through anti-oppression organizing. Originating in 1995, OutNow works to help LGBTQ youth establish social connections through support groups in an attempt to counter the homophobic culture in our schools and homes.
OutNow is also home to the QuEST Project. QuEST stands for QUeer Empowerment thru Solidarity and Truth, and began 10 years ago as the political arm of Out Now. QuEST strives to end the reliance on incarceration as a way to solve problems and to learn ways of conflict resolution without revenge or violence. Their projects are multidimensional, using audio and visual methods to convey their work.
Three years ago QuEST created a performance/interactive
workshop called, "Our Liberation!: Using Interactive Theater to Untangle Oppression." This project uses Theater of the Oppressed techniques, breaking the barrier between actors and spectators making participants part of the theater performance.
