Sisters on the Runway is a national organization that inspires students to raise awareness for domestic violence prevention within their schools and throughout their communities. With branches in New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts, the organization has successfully raised over $50,000 for local domestic violence shelters. Since its founding in 2010, the UMass Division has raised over $7000 for Safe Passage of Northampton, Massachusetts. Issues surrounding domestic, dating and sexual violence are common but often go unnoticed. SotR-UMass is dedicated to raising awareness of these issues and to changing the odds for future generations.
This year, Presidents Kelsey Stokes and Christine Cummings, along with eleven board members, are preparing for the 3rd Annual Benefit Fashion Show. Set for Saturday, April 13th
in the Campus Center Auditorium, the event will feature a red carpet, live dj, performances, guest speakers, mocktail and dessert bar sponsored by TJX and much more. Some of the fashions to be featured are from global companies such as Sabo Skirt and Nicholas K while others will be the works of UMass' very own student designers. The group is also supportive of local boutiques such as Ode and Urban Exchange. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on some of these garments before the show and take them home at the end of the night.
Pre-sale tickets are now available in the Resource Room of the Student Union (downstairs across, from the Hatch). Tickets will be sold starting at 5PM on the day of and doors will open at 6PM.
