The School of Nursing is pleased to present the work of artist and nurse practitioner Sharon Carty, titled “Quilts for the Soul.”

Sharon Carty is a psychiatric nurse and passionate quilter.  Additionally she has taken many writing classes and professional development courses. She learned Tai chi and for 13 years practiced in early morning on the Amherst common 5 days a week. In 1999, she worked as a clinician at Windhorse, an outpatient treatment program in Northampton. From 2000 to 2004, she was a member of The Dance Generators, an intergenerational dance company in Northampton.  Her quilts are intricate, detailed and colorful.  In her prior work with clients and their dying family members, she used her craft to assist grieving families by creating personal reminders of their family member in the form of a quilt.

Opening reception in Skinner Hall Foyer and Room 101, Monday March 25, 2013 from 4 pm-5:30 pm.  Quilts on display all spring.
