Talk: 'The Power Scholars Program'
October 24, 2017
UMass Amherst Campus
Leykia Nulan, assistant provost for diversity in enrollment management, discusses the Power Scholars Program.
In August, the university hosted nearly 90 first-, second-, and third-grade students from the Power Scholars Program at the Holyoke YMCA. The students participated in a scavenger hunt in which they solved riddles about the participating locations across the university campus. The Power Scholars Academy is a partnership between the Greater Holyoke YMCA, a national nonprofit organization Building Educated Leaders for Life, and Holyoke Public Schools. The six-week summer program strives to combat summer learning loss through academic instruction in math, reading, art, dance, STEM and nutrition, as well as foster physical and social growth. The Office of Enrollment Management oversees admission and financial aid for undergraduates.
