Inaugural UMass Green Commute Day
April 21, 2017
8:00 am-10:00 am
Room: North Lawn
UMass Amherst Campus
Do you like reducing pollution and free coffee? Join Green Commute Day. Register in advance, arrive to campus by 10 a.m. and claim your free breakfast.
In partnership with the Faculty Senate Health Council, the MassRIDES "Try it Day" campaign, the School of Earth and Sustainability, and Transportation Services and Parking Services, UMass Amherst will be hosting the first-ever Green Commute Day to encourage students, faculty, and staff to try an alternative to driving alone to campus by either biking, walking, carpooling, or taking transit. These methods reduce air pollution, save money, and create a better community and studies show that employees who opt for regular active commutes are more satisfied professionally and personally, and have reduced stress levels. Release time for UMass employees may be available.
Commuters will be asked to log their green commute in the MassRIDES NuRides online tool that helps you find carpool matches and provides rewards for greener trips - and it’s free. MassRIDES will be signing UMass community members up for the green commute for three weeks leading up to Earth Day in the Campus Center concourse.
Commuters and the entire campus community are invited to come the Earth Day tent on the Student Union North Lawn from 8-10 a.m. before the Earth Day Festival begins to grab their free coffee and donuts and participate in the Green Commute Day Sustainable Transportation Fair which will feature the following campus and partner organizations:
