A group of fifty Japanese college students will make a total of eight presentations about Japan. The topics range from cuisine to technology and public safety. The presentations will be followed by responses from UMass and Amherst College professors and open discussions, and should be a great introduction to Japanese culture and society.

As part of the UMass Amherst Outdoor Summer Arts Project, New York-based artist Jennifer Williams created two 12-feet by 24-feet banners for the south facade of the Fine Arts Center building.

Deep in the Hole examines a wide range of experiences of imprisonment including political prisoners, conscientious objectors in WWII, the war on drugs and marijuana decriminalization, psychiatric confinement, and the role of controversial activism and publications.
