The “Gestapo of suspicion” haunts István Szabó’s mesmerizing narrative set during the 1944 Nazi occupation in Budapest where mounting persecution forces two resistance workers to share a room as they hide from the fascist Arrow Cross. New England premiere of this new digital restoration (Best Director, Berlinale).

Introduction by Catherine Portuges, UMass Amherst.

(dir István Szabó, Hungary, 1979, 101 min, in Hungarian w/English subtitles)
