ESL 296 Independent Study Depending on their availability of time, ESL Program faculty members make one-to-one contracts with students who would like to pursue individualized studies on topics of interest. Examples of language study topics include the study of grammar, vocabulary, writing, and speaking. Examples of topics related to language study include webpage design, interdisplinary research, and writing for professional journals. Yet another option is setting up a collaborative cross-disciplinary independent study, which draws upon the expertise of both the content professor and the ESL Program language specialist. An example is a School of Nursing student enrolled in a course with heavy writing demands will receive feedback and guidance from both her course professor and a cooperating ESL Program lecturer. Students who would like to take ESL 296 Independent Study cannot register for it themselves on SPIRE. Instead, they must email or call the ESL Program office to make arrangements for independent study. (back to homepage) |
