The University has undertaken a number of steps to improve environmental performance and implement sustainability practices across campus operations. These include a number of initiatives that range from the simple to the complex and include the following:
- Replaced incandescent lights with compact florescent light bulbs;
- Installed motion detection lighting and automatic flush toilets and sinks;
- Installed steam, water, and electricity meters on all campus buildings;
- Installed instantaneous domestic hot water heaters for various buildings;
- Procures locally grown produce for use in the dining commons;
- Constructed a highly efficient combined heat and power facility (that provides all of the heating and cooling needs of the campus and the majority of its electricity needs).
This is only a sample of what the University has done to date. It recognized that it can do more and is taking additional steps to further improve environmental performance.
