A Letter of Specialization is conferred on students who successfully complete the following program of courses.

Students must complete a minimum of five courses with a minimum grade of "C".

1) English 379 Introduction to Professional Writing

The course is a broad overview of the range of professional writing genres, including science writing, medical writing, technical writing and general nonfiction writing.

2) One Perspectives on Writing Course

Special topics courses that introduce the study of writing as a central activity to those who seek to write for a living. The courses range from cultural explorations to theoretical and historical ones.

3) Three Writing Electives, one of which may be an internship in writing or publishing

English 297 Experimental Writing Workshops - mandatory pass/fail courses offered each spring semester through the Writing Program (Only one of these courses may count towards the Nonfiction Specialization.) English 298H Honors Practicum: Teaching in the Writing Center
English 327 Modern Business Writing
English 290 Publishing and Small Press
English 350 Expository Writing
English 391K Professional Editing
English 352 Article Writing
English 391J Creative Nonfiction
