The UMass English Society’s success relies on the combined effort of students from numerous disciplines. We are not just English majors. We are an informal group from various backgrounds with a diverse array of beliefs and hobbies. However, we all have one thing in common, and that is an appreciation for good writing.
Meetings are held every Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Bartlett cube. On a typical Thursday, our meetings usually last between one to two hours. Members can bring literature to read, a story or poem that caught his/her interest, or just attentive ears to listen.
In our meetings, we also continue the tradition of reviewing submissions for our yearly journal of undergraduate student writing called "Jabberwocky." You are welcome to bring a piece of your own to read, bravely announced or anonymously read by someone else, and even ask fellow members for suggestions/comments on how they think you could improve your piece or style. There are no restrictions to what you can bring (why censor one's creativity?), just as long as it is all in good taste. However, make sure it is under four single spaced pages if you would also like a chance at having it published in Jabberwocky.
Please feel free to stop by Bartlett and pick-up a copy of the 2010 or 2009 issue.
Always, make sure to check the “What’s New” page for all future updates to this site.
