Professor LeCourt specializes in critical and cultural approaches to rhetoric and composition, including critical pedagogy, feminism, and cultural studies. Her most recent book is titled Identity Matters: Schooling the Student Body in Academic Discourse (Albany: SUNY P, 2004). Her research interests also include the cultural and pedagogical implications of emerging writing technologies, resulting in articles and book chapters such as, "Technology as Material Culture: A Critical Pedagogy of Technical Literacy."(in ICT, Pedagogy and the Curriculum: Subject to Change. Eds. Vivian Ellis and Avril Loveless. London: Routledge, 2001), "Writing Multiplicity: Hypertext and Feminist Textual Politics," co-authored with Luann Barnes (in Computers and Composition, 16, 1999), and "Critical Pedagogy in the Computer Classroom: Politicizing the Writing Space" (in Computers and Composition, 15, 1998). She was the first runner-up for the Ellen Nold Award for the best article on computers and composition in 1999.
LeCourt was awarded the College of Liberal Arts Excellence in Teaching Award (1998) at Colorado State University. At UMass, she teaches undergraduate writing courses, from first-year writing to junior-level topics courses such as Gender and Writing. Past graduate courses include Writing and Difference, Gender and Writing, and Critical/Cultural Composition Pedagogies.
She serves as a referee for professional journals such as College English, Composition Studies, and Journal of Advanced Composition.
