Points

Awarded

Takes or verbalizes body substance isolation precautions

Establishes unresponsiveness

Opens the airway and attempts to ventilate

If unable to make the victim’s chest rise, repositions the victim’s head and

tries to ventilate again

If the chest does not rise with attempted breaths, even after repositioning the

airway, performs the sequence of up to 5 back blows and up to 5 chest

thrusts

Opens the victim’s airway using a tongue-jaw lift and looks for an object in

the pharynx; if the object is visible, removes it

Repeats the sequences of attempts (and reattempts) to ventilate, up to 5

back blows, up to 5 chest thrusts, open the airway, visualize for an object

and finger sweep if appropriate, and attempts to ventilate until the

obstruction is cleared or advanced procedures are available to establish a

patent airway

If the FBAO is removed and the airway is cleared, checks breathing

If the victim is breathing, checks for signs of circulation (pulse check and

evidence of breathing, coughing, or movement); if there are no signs of

circulation, begins chest compression

If the victim is not breathing, provides rescue breaths

If the victim is breathing and has a pulse, places victim in recovery position
