An environmental management system (EMS) is a framework for understanding an organization’s  environmental impact, complying with environmental regulations, and implementing proactive pollution prevention strategies.

An EMS carries out a continuing cycle of planning, doing, reviewing, and improving the processes and actions associated with the organization’s responsible environmental management.
