The University of Massachusetts Amherst has been selected to participate in the EPA sponsored EMS Pilot Program for Colleges and Universities. In applying for the program, the Chancellor said:

"The campus has a long history of environmental stewardship.  I view this program as another step   that is consistent with our mission."

EMS refers to Environmental Management System, a comprehensive management strategy designed to continually identify and reduce the environmental impact resulting from our activities. Benefits of an EMS include greater energy and water conservation, improved solid waste management and compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
