Educator Day at Gillette Stadium

Approximately 180 educators and friends from Springfield, Mass., joined College of Education faculty for the first Educator Appreciation Day at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on November 16, 2013. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and staff from Springfield Public Schools enjoyed Minutemen football as honored guests of the College of Education and UMass Amherst. They were welcomed in the Alumni Tailgating Tent by Dean Christine B. McCormick, given maroon College of Education scarves to wear with pride, and treated to a tailgating lunch before the game against the Akron Zips.

Pat Griffin Honored for LGBT Advocacy

More than 75 alumni, students, and educators gathered in Furcolo Auditorium for a College of Education Homecoming event on Saturday, October 19, with professor emerita Pat Griffin (Ed.D. 1980), a respected educator and nationally recognized advocate for inclusion in sports at all levels, who presented a talk on “The Changing Sports Climate for LGBTQ Athletes & Coaches: Successes & Challenges.”

The College of Education will host Pat Griffin ’80 EdD, a National LGBTQ and athletics educator, activist, UMass Amherst professor emerita and alumna, for a talk on The Changing Sports Climate for LGBTQ Athletes and Coaches: Successes and Challenges followed by a public reception on October 19.
