Grace Harris received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to teach in Indonesia. Grace Harris is a master’s degree candidate in the Department of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies, language, literacy and culture concentration. Harris said that she “applied to go to Indonesia because I was there last winter and I observed a widespread desire and need to learn English because of its ability to aid employment…. Because Indonesia is large, diverse and sits geographically and politically between many nations and their languages, English is used as a middle ground due to its title as ‘the global language’. I felt that Indonesia is a place I could offer a lot and because of my connection to my friends there it is dear to my heart.” Harris said that she will write a blog that will address in part her experiences teaching English and learning Bahasa Indonesian and other Indonesian languages.
