Guidance Director Program |
Guidance Program Leadership To address the critical need for k-12 Guidance Program Leaders, the UMASS, Amherst School Counseling faculty and Educational Leadership faculty have developed an interdepartmental academic program leading to state certification as a Guidance Director/Supervisor. Students complete Educational Leadership courses with prospective Superintendents, Principals, and Curriculum Directors. Students also complete advanced School Guidance course work to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to implement and lead an exemplary ASCA National Model School Guidance Counseling Program. Students have the opportunity to gain addition experience by participating in research and evaluation studies conducted by the National Center for School Counseling Outcome Research. All students complete a supervised practicum in Guidance Program Leadership. Successful applicants must have a Masters in School Counseling and be certified as a School Counselor or be enrolled in a Masters program leading to certification as a school counselor. Applications are reviewed in February by the School Counselor Education and Educational Administration faculty. Students pursuing this certificate are advised by a member of the School Counselor Education faculty. Contact John Carey if you are interested in this option.
