Janine Roberts, Ed.D. Professor.

Background: Dr. Roberts received her Ed.D. at the University of Massachusetts in 1982.

Current activities: Dr. Roberts is presently working on establishing a family-school-community project at a local elementary school, which supports vibrant school-family relationships. Needs assessment and focus groups done with the staff and parents at the school will establish priorities for different kinds of project activities. In addition, live supervision of graduate student work , as well as possibilities for joint evaluation and research with the school and community will be available.

Teaching interests: Systems theory and social justice, self of the counselor/school psychologist and ethical ways to tap into their individual expertise, stories as a teaching and therapeutic tool, and supervision of counseling work.

Research interests: Unique dynamics of diverse family forms and how social institutions either choose to support or not support them, importance of family rituals, gender issues in training and counseling relationships, familial, institutional, and cultural stories, and crisis interventions in schools and families when life-changing events occur.
