Subject matter requirements are a key component of the STEP. Listed in the packets for each subject area, you’ll find UMass Amherst courses that fulfill the state subject matter requirements.

All subject matter advising is conducted by subject specific faculty in the School of Education. The Faculty Contact Information link will help you find the faculty member for your subject area. The Educator Information Office does not advise for subject matter requirements.
