STEP: Program Options
Option #3: Graduate-University to Schools
- Candidates receive a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) and initial licensure
upon completion of the STEP licensure program.
- Candidates should have completed an undergraduate degree in the subject
matter in which they wish to teach; exceptions are made by School of Education
subject matter faculty.
- Full-time candidates may complete the program in 3 – 4 semesters. A
minimum of 9 credits is considered to be full-time.
- Part-time candidates have up to 3 years to complete the program.
- Candidates complete all foundations and clinical year courses AND take
4 graduate levels courses at the 600-level or above. Click

- A minimum of 33 credits is needed to complete the M.Ed. Of these, 21 credits
must be in the School of Education and 18 credits must be graded.
- Candidates must pass MTEL Communication & Literacy Skills test
by the end of the first semester of enrollment. The MTEL subject matter test
MUST be passed before enrollment into the candidates’ practicum.
