Botelho recognized for distinguished service

Maria Jose Botelho, associate professor, teacher education and curriculum studies, was recognized by the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for "Distinguished Service to the University of Massachusetts Amherst” specifically for her work in the local community both for her writing and literacy workshops, as well as for organizing the 5 College Arts program.

Botelho noted, “Please note that I co-chair the Five College Arts Integration Initiative. (The recent panel dialogue at the Emily Dickinson Museum is connected to this work.) My colleague Jana Silver, a TECS alumna and faculty member at Hampshire College, and Martha Taunton, the Director of Art Education at the university, along with several committee members are trying to establish a certificate program for undergraduate students across the Five Colleges. I also want to state that what I do is in collaboration with so many colleagues. Our shared interests and social commitments to students and communities have made my service possible.”
