Ryan Wells is associate professor and program coordinator for the higher education concentration. He earned his PhD in higher education from the University of Iowa in 2008. Wells primarily uses quantitative research methods to study questions of college access and equity for underrepresented groups, as well as resulting social inequality. Topics for recent research include the ways that socioeconomic status, gender, and disability status are related to student success. His research has been published in top journals such as The Journal of Higher Education, Teachers College Record, Research in Higher Education, and Community College Review. He has also received awards for his research from the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and the Association for Institutional Research (AIR). Wells received funding from the Ford Foundation in 2013 to plan the organization of a Latin American higher education association, and has also received funding from the Association for Institutional Research and the Massachusetts Campus Compact for his research. Wells has taught the following graduate courses: Access & Equity in Higher Education, Higher Education Finance Policy, Doctoral Seminar in Higher Education, Research in Higher Education, and History of Higher Education.
