Educator Day at Gillette Stadium

Approximately 180 educators and friends from Springfield, Mass., joined College of Education faculty for the first Educator Appreciation Day at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on November 16, 2013. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and staff from Springfield Public Schools enjoyed Minutemen football as honored guests of the College of Education and UMass Amherst. They were welcomed in the Alumni Tailgating Tent by Dean Christine B. McCormick, given maroon College of Education scarves to wear with pride, and treated to a tailgating lunch before the game against the Akron Zips.

In honor of all educators, and in particular our guests from Springfield, UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy, UMass Board of Trustees Chair Henry Thomas III, and Springfield Public Schools Superintendent Daniel Warwick joined Dean McCormick in a salute to educators on the stadium’s “big screens” while the spirited crowd waved at them. It was a great day at Gillette! Go UMass!
