The College of Education’s Graduation Celebration

Unlike the University Commencement when degrees are conferred, this is an informal College-based celebration with the emphasis on celebration! Caps and gowns are not worn, and most attendees wear attire appropriate for a party with family and friends. Seating is available for graduates, families and friends on a first come, first served basis in the auditorium, which fills up fast!

Doors open at 5 p.m. A variety of appetizers is offered.

Also beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending at 5:45 p.m., a limited number of group photos of students by academic concentration or program take place on the stage. Graduate students should ask their concentration or program coordinators for details about their group photos.

The official program starts promptly at 6 p.m. with brief remarks by Dean McCormick. Then graduating graduate students and graduating seniors are announced by their concentration or program coordinators as they walk across the stage to be recognized, and education minors are  acknowledged. Graduates will receive more detailed information from their concentration or program coordinators about this part of the event. Professional photos of each graduate are taken as the student exits the stage. The program ends with the Dean’s final remarks.

The College of Education’s Senior Recognition Ceremony

graduating seniors

Graduating seniors should arrive at Goodell Hall no later than 8:30 a.m. and follow directions to changing rooms where they can put on their caps and gowns. Families and friends may enjoy coffee and beverages in the lobby until 8:50. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. when graduates and faculty file into the Bernie Dallas Room and take their seats at the front. Dean McCormick, our Associates Deans and faculty welcome the graduating seniors and their families and friends. Graduates are called individually to the front of the room to receive their medals. A professional photographer will photograph each graduate. Graduates as a group give a short presentation. An informal reception with breakfast-type refreshments takes place following the ceremony.

A professional photographer will be at both College of Education events to take photos of graduates. The photographer may take candid photos throughout both events.

Families and friends are welcome to take photographs. Please be courteous and respectful as you take photographs so you do not disrupt the event for others.
