Professional Interests

Clement A. Seldin teaches courses on Social Foundations of American Education. He has been honored to receive many teaching awards including the Order of Omega Teaching Award; the College Outstanding Teacher Award; Mortar Board Award for Outstanding Teaching; and the prestigious University of Massachusetts Distinguished Teaching Award.

Dr. Seldin’s research agenda focuses on contemporary problems in American Education. He has worked to examine authentic problems that affect the lives of students and teachers by exploring the complexity of these problems, making connections, and suggesting realistic solutions. Primary research targets have included selectivity in teacher education and parent/teacher conferencing. In addition, his research agenda has centered on faculty development in higher education with emphasis on teaching and academic portfolios.

Dr. Seldin has served on research teams for The Schools of Education Project, a comprehensive multi-year research study of the nation's 1200 schools of education, directed by Dr. Arthur Levine, Columbia University. This major study resulted in three major reports on Educating Leaders, Educating Teachers, and Educating Researchers.
