Professional Interests

Sally Galman completed her PhD in Educational Foundations, Policy and Practice at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2005. Her research explores the identity development, moral careers and critical capacities of pre-service and novice teachers, especially women, working in diverse schools. This includes investigations of collective and individual cultural and economic experiences of work in the feminized professions, and workers’ related feminized and/or feminist practices in the workplace and home. Her research is also related to exploring the educative work of mothers of any gender, especially in cultures and communities where mothering is positioned as a political, even radical, act. Dr. Galman grew up in northern Japan and attended Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. A Grinnell College graduate, she is also an award-winning cartoonist and visual artist.
