With the demands and rush of our daily life steadily increasing, the build-up of stress can sap our energy and motivation at work and at home. The need for a restful interlude in the midst of a busy workday can renew us for further challenges. In this workshop, you will visit the Durfee Conservatory and Gardens and experience a horticultural therapy stress intervention. In this workshop, participants will:
John Tristan is the Director of the Durfee Conservatory and is a Master Horticulturalist and a Board Certified Horticultural Therapist. He has researched and developed a horticultural program specifically targeting students and University staff. For many years, John has worked with a wide variety of student groups and adults using horticultural activities as therapy. He currently teaches a credit course in Horticultural Therapy for the Division of Continuing Education at the University and has published a number of horticultural articles including the popular 'History of the Durfee Conservatory 1867-1992'. His efforts at combining public outreach and horticulture in innovative ways have been acknowledged by community service awards and a Chancellor's Citation for distinguished service.
