Accommodations and Services For Employees

Disability Services provides a wide variety of services to faculty, staff and employees with disabilities. Our office promotes the empowerment of people with disabilities and their full integration into campus life and the community.


An accommodation is a modification or adjustment to a course, program, service, job, activity, or facility that enables a qualified student or employee with a disability to participate equally in a program, service, activity, or employment at the University. A “reasonable” accommodation refers to an accommodation that is appropriate as well as effective and efficient, and is agreed upon by the University and the consumer with a disability.

Accommodations For Employees With Disabilities

Disability Services works with both the employee and immediate supervisor to identify reasonable accommodations which will enable successful performance in various employment settings. Accommodations may include adaptive equipment, facility modifications, an adjustment to work schedule or job duties, as well as a range of other creative solutions, so that the disabled employee will be able to continue to perform the essential functions of his/her job. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis, through a cooperative effort between the disabled faculty or staff member, their supervisor, and Disability Services.

Employees who request workplace accommodations directly related to a disability, which impacts their ability to achieve the requirements of the job, are encouraged to register with Disability Services.

Staff are qualified to evaluate documentation submitted by the employee to determine eligibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to further recommend specific workplace accommodations that would be appropriate in these situations.

To register with Disability Services; please call (413) 545-0892 (V/TTY) to schedule a meeting with a Consumer Manager. If you decide you are interested in pursuing an accommodation, you will be asked to complete a Employee Intake Form.
