Worcester/Franklin Spring Fling BBQ

Worcester/Franklin Spring Fling BBQ Thursday May 1 quad north of Worcester DC from 4:30-8 pm. Sample grilled chicken, pulled pork sandwich, sirloin burgers, vegetable kebobs, garden burgers, fresh fruit salad, and red bliss potato salad. Entertainment provided by the live band: Junk Man's Choir. Movie at 9 pm: Pirates of the Caribbean. UMass Dining and Northeast Area Government have partnered for this event.

Taste of UMass

Join us at the Taste of UMass Thursday, April 24 at the Mullins Center from 4-8 pm. This is the nation's largest campus food service event. Enjoy food with 75 booths of healthy options. Competition includes the official sanctioned Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, UMass Idol-Singing Contest, and the Student Iron Chef Contest. There will be fabulous prizes…two tickets via American Airlines in North America or Canada, and iPhone drawing every half hour. Cook with Martin Yan, enjoy Battle of the Bands and more!

Visiting College Chef Series

Visiting College Chef Series will be featured at Berkshire Dining Commons Wednesday, April 16 from 5-9 pm. Meet Martin Breslin, Director of Culinary Operations at Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS), and sample the Crimson Favorites: cockle & mussel soup, beet, walnut & stilton salad, Irish scallop pie, roast leg of Lamb, red spiced chicken, fuscilli with peas & mushrooms, colcannon, roasted carrots & parsnips, and brown bread. The featured dessert will be Bailey's & cranberry bread pudding.

Taste Of Home

UMass Dining Welcomes Parents & Guests to Family Weekend 2008! Join us for a Taste of Home where recipes submitted from home will be featured in all DCs at lunch Saturday, April 12. Enjoy Chicken Piccata, Fettuccine Alfredo with Broccoli & Tomatoes, Nonny Whiting's Mac-N-Cheese, Sweet and Sour Tofu, Mississippi Mud Truffle, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies. Who Wants to Be the Next UMass IRON CHEF?

There will be three teams per DC of three students each; teams must submit recipes by Friday April 11. A "mystery basket" will be provided. There will only be one winning team per DC and those teams will compete at the Taste of UMass.

Meet Executive Chef, Nijo Joseph, from Stanford University and sample his Indian feast: Grapefruit Mango Salad with Chile Lime Vinaigrette, Corn and Peppers Salad with Cumin and Ginger, Raita Salad, Crispy Okra Salad, Tandoori Chicken, Goan Style Curry Shrimp, Vindaloo Lamb, Red Roasted Indian Potatoes, Dal Makhani, Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Rice Kheer, Sooji Ka Halwa, and Mango Lassi.

Blice, CEC and Executive Chef Donald Stauffer, CEC from Villanova University and sample Villanova favorites: gingered carrot soup, Philly cheesesteak pizza, "Dine Out" barbeque plate, hickory smoked Texas dry rub ribs, Moroccan barbequed salmon, Jamaican jerked chicken, "Philly" baked beans with Kennett Square Mushrooms, Philadelphia water ice and the trifle.

Cooking/Baking 101

If you like the heat, come into our kitchen! Be the first to sign up for Cooking 101 or Baking 101. Classes are scheduled at Berkshire DC each Friday in April from 2-5 pm. Willie Sng, Executive Chef will host Cooking 101 and Simon Stevenson will conduct Baking 101. Sign up at your favorite DC or call UMass Dining at 545-2472. Registration will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Classes are limited to 12 students per class. Breakfast Cookery, Stir-fry; fresh bread, cakes, truffles & more are your choices!

Blueberry Week

Blueberry Week will be featured in all DCs February 23-29. Blueberries are ranked #1 in antioxidants and are high in vitamin C and fiber. Blueberry health bar, baked chicken with blueberry chutney, roast loin of pork with blueberry sauce, blueberry smoothies and more will be showcased. Visit the "Blueberry Booth" at Worcester DC and enter to win a jar of dark chocolate covered blueberries.

Enjoy the Tapas Bar and sample specialties from the Chef's Table: Paprika Chicken, Paella, Roasted Garlic and Rosemary Pork Loin, and indulge with Flourless Chocolate Torte with Raspberry Coulis & Whipped Cream.
