On
November 4, 2004, a by-invitation-only meeting will be held of a
small group of US researchers, program managers from the National
Science Foundation and staff of the Organization of American States
(OAS) at the OAS headquarters in Washington, DC. This one-day meeting
will be the start of an NSF-OAS collaboration in support of efforts
towards the creation of a Digital Government initiative across the
countries of the Western Hemisphere. The meeting participants will
discuss research and education challenges, and the major policy,
technology and social issues that should be the focus of the planned
initiative.
One
of the outcomes of the November 4 brainstorming and planning session
will be a preliminary topical agenda and organizational guidance
for a joint NSF-OAS workshop to take place in early Spring 2005.
The spring workshop will further address the challenges and issues
identified at the November 4 meeting. The outcomes of the workshop
will provide (1) recommendations to NSF on research and education
priorities in regional Digital Government and (2) a basis for a
substantive agenda for a Digital Government Initiative in the Americas. At
the meeting you would be asked to present your views and experiences
in Digital Government, and to participate in working group discussions
leading to specific recommendations. Funds from an NSF award are
available to reimburse your travel expenses sometime after the meeting
dates.
