'89 - '90: We Remember...
Stories about the Night the Wall Came Down

Curated by Hiltrud Schulz
and translated together with Sky Arndt-Briggs, Evan Torner
and Delene White

On November 9, 1989 a momentous turning point- a Wende- occurred in world history. In anticipation of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Hiltrud Schulz of the DEFA Film Library had the idea to run people's stories about what they experienced that night in our monthly e-newsletter.

This concept evolved into a collection of eleven stories, written exclusively for the newsletter, by [East] German artists- including filmmakers and film historians and artists who have worked with East German film for years- to tell their stories about the night the Wall came down.
